Marella Discovery has set sail from Port Canaveral for the first time, beginning a varied series of US and Caribbean sailings for the season. The 1,830-guest ship sailed out from her homeport of Port Canaveral on 7th May 2023 for a series of summer sailings, including the Sunshine and Sands, American Dream, Floridian Favourites, Stateside Discovery and East Coast Adventure itineraries. The port staged a sail-out event with a water cannon salute from two tugboats as the ship embarked on her first voyage which calls at Amber Coast, Dominican Republic; Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos; Key West, Florida; Miami, Florida before returning to Port Canaveral.

An All-American Deck Party took place with themed music sets, décor and hosts dressed in classic red, white and blue colours. The evening was accompanied with ‘Charleston Planters Punch’ cocktail for guests to enjoy. To celebrate the new sailings, Marella Cruises has also enhanced its buffet offering to feature USA themed dishes to tie in with ports of call and The Snack Shack has a rotation of hot dogs on offer, including a cheese dog, chilli dog and corn dogs.

Guests onboard Marella Discovery will also be able to enjoy the benefit of the ship’s recent cabin refurbishment, which offers a fresh and contemporary design. Selected cabins* have been refreshed with new bedframes with additional storage space underneath, new cabin furniture, optimisation of storage space in wardrobes, and new kettles, hairdryers, and USB/C sockets have been added to provide an improved and elevated guest experience.

Chris Hackney, managing director of Marella Cruises said, “We’re really proud to see Marella Discovery set sail from Port Canaveral on our US and Caribbean sailings for this season. Offering a wide range of destinations to our customers is important to us, as we want to give them as much choice as possible when it comes to cruising.”

Guests booked to travel on Marella Discovery for summer 2023 and who have booked flights with the fly-cruise operator, will fly into TUI’s new U.S. hub, Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The airport which has undergone a significant investment, offers a modern and seamless travel experience, featuring customer service ambassadors, ‘bag first’ process and a brand-new and streamlined security checkpoint. What’s more, Port Canaveral is just a 50-minutes transfer time meaning customers can spend more time enjoying their cruise holiday.
