The Majestic Line was founded in 2004 by friends Andy Thoms and Dr Ken Grant. From the very start, our mission statement has been to help visitors discover Scotland’s hidden gems – anchorages that are remote, sparsely inhabited, and often inaccessible to larger cruise ships – while limiting our environmental impact.

In The Beginning

The line was originally made up of two converted wooden fishing boats – MV Glen Massan and MV Glen Tarsan – offering an authentic tourist experience without sacrificing any of the modern comforts.

Over the years, our fleet grew to incorporate two purpose-built steel-hulled boats, MV Glen Shiel and MV Glen Etive.

Our Story

Our story, all the way down to our name, is deeply rooted in Scottish maritime culture. The Majestic Line is named after a fictional cruise line mentioned in Neil Munro’s famous Para Handy stories, set on a Clyde puffer boat, which our telltale golden funnels are also a nod to.

In 2024, The Majestic Line was acquired by Craig of Campbeltown Limited, an established family-owned business in the Scottish transport and travel sector, whose portfolio includes trusted services such as West Coast Motors, Borders Buses, Kintyre Express, West Coast Tours, and City Sightseeing Glasgow & Bute.

Getting Shipshape

An ambitious refurbishment project followed this acquisition, with a view to heighten the luxury aboard our vessels, while keeping the Majestic Line’s small-scale values and traditional character at the core of the project.

The fleet now boasts updated fixtures, facilities, furniture, custom upholstery, and individually decorated cabins.
