Mein Schiff Relax, the first newbuild in the InTUItion ship class, was officially handed over to TUI Cruises at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. Representatives of both companies, including Wybcke Meier and Frank Kuhlmann, CEO and CFO of TUI Cruises, and Cristiano Bazzara, Director of Fincantieri, attended the formal handover.
The Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, was also present and was welcomed by Biagio Mazzotta and Pierroberto Folgiero, Chairman and CEO of Fincantieri, respectively, and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of the Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division.

“It is a very special moment for us to take delivery of the first ship of the new innovative InTUItion ship class,” says Wybcke Meier, CEO TUI Cruises.
“Eleven years ago, we took delivery of our first newly built ship. With Mein Schiff Relax, we are opening a whole new chapter in the field of premium cruises today. We would like to thank the shipyard and all those involved for implementing this ship, on which “experiencing well-being anew” is taken to a new level, together with our teams.”
Mein Schiff Relax offers regular guests and cruise enthusiasts an even more diverse culinary journey through particularly high-quality worlds of enjoyment.
There are new and even more opportunities available to retreat to architecturally spectacular oases of well-being for relaxation.
In the cabins and suites, Mein Schiff responds even more to the needs of cruise travellers and thus creates a very special holiday feeling: for example, for the first time there are inside, outside and balcony cabins for solo travellers on Mein Schiff Relax.
In addition to the numerous innovations, the suites and the area for suite guests on Mein Schiff Relax will also find a new place: at the stern of the new feel-good ship. In addition to a variety of Junior Suites, Beautiful View and Wanderlust Suites, there will be Weitblick Suites and, for the first time, two Large Freedom Suites, which extend over two decks and have a large terrace.
In addition, spa and wellness are being redefined. Guests can enjoy perfect relaxation with fantastic views in the new, exclusive barrel sauna on deck 19.
And brand new: an exclusive cryochamber for cryotherapy applications that support regeneration, weight loss or improvement of the skin structure with temperatures as low as -110 degrees.
High-class entertainment as well as worlds of experience such as the Asian restaurant Fugu with a digital atmosphere and matching dishes from the pen of Tim Raue will also find a new home on this ship, which will start in March for the first anticipation cruises.
Sustainable growth: First ship with gas propulsion
TUI Cruises is also focusing on environmental and climate protection with the new ship class: Mein Schiff Relax will be equipped with dual-fuel engines that run on liquefied petroleum gas, and in the future also with low-emission fuels and climate-friendly bio- and e-LNG can be operated – an essential step on the way to climate-neutral cruising.
In addition, it will be equipped with improved catalytic converters (nitrogen oxide reduction to Euro 6 standard) and a shore power connection. This ensures almost emission-free ship operation during the port layover (about 40 percent of the operating time).
Hydro-Treat: Efficient waste treatment
Mein Schiff Relax is also equipped with an innovative system that shreds organic waste through thermal treatment and can process it for further use on land.
In the so-called “HydroTreat”, the liquid parts of the biological waste are separated with heat and pressure and fed into the ship’s own wastewater treatment.
At the end, treated wastewater comes out at the level of state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plants on land.
The solid portions of the waste are transformed into so-called BioChar, which is considered an all-rounder in agriculture – for example, for soil improvement or as a feed additive.
