AIDA Cruises, the German market leader for cruises has ordered two new ships from the Italian shipyard Fincantieri.

On the occasion of Seatrade Cruise Global, the world’s largest cruise trade fair, which is currently taking place in Miami from April 7 to 10, 2025, AIDA Cruises today announced a billion-euro investment as part of the AIDA Evolution initiative for the future: two new ships of a new generation.

The identical ships will be manufactured by the Fincantieri shipyards in Italy, and commissioning is planned for spring 2030 and winter 2031/2032. This will increase the AIDA fleet to 13 ships.

AIDA Cruises is thus further expanding its already strong position in the German cruise market and responding to the strong demand.

“The two new ships with 2,100 guest cabins will complement and expand our existing fleet. With this ship size, we will offer our guests a completely new ship class, which is between AIDAprima and AIDAcosma in terms of size. Our next generation of ships stands for innovative technology with multi-fuel propulsion systems. The aircraft can be operated with LNG and will also be prepared for future biofuels and e-fuels in the future,” explains Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises.

For the pioneer of the German cruise industry, guest feedback is the most valuable basis for the conception of the new ship class. In addition, there are innovations and creativity to realize many new ideas and further develop successful concepts. “Our new ships will not only delight our AIDA fans, but also countless new guests,” adds Eichhorn.

A mix of different measures, innovative technology, optimized operating procedures and alternative fuels will make the ship operation of the new generation of ships even more efficient.

The contract was concluded on April 7, 2025, subject to financing. AIDA Cruises will announce further details of the newbuilding order in the coming months.

As part of AIDA Evolution, the cruise line launched the largest fleet modernization program in the company’s history just under two months ago with the first shipyard period.

AIDAdiva has undergone extensive modernization in Marseille and has just returned to service. AIDAluna and AIDAbella will follow in autumn 2025 and spring 2026 respectively.
